Hellmouth? Nah.

So I thought this article had some very good points, it pointed out some very weird interesting things that I never really would have thought about. I kinda just watch the show and look for interesting occurrences and issues; I never really thought much about all of the metaphors. The whole show is a giant metaphor! I don’t know, though, how much I agree with this metaphor. Highschool really wasn’t a living hell or anything to me, I think it was a fun 4 years, but I see where the producer is coming from. High school was hell to a lot of people, I’ve heard people say it, and when you're in college you hear it more. I like college a lot more than highschool, but it wasn’t hell. Now theres a show that shows this metaphorically. She is a teenager who goes through the classic issues in higschool, along with her friends. Weird love triangles, teenage angst, not making the cut for things like the Cheerleading squad, quibbles with parents, and the makers of the show have magnified this by adding vampires and other mythical creatures to it, which must be slayed by Buffy. The show centers on her and her two friends, and its showing them fighting daily battles with creatures, which is a parallel to kids in highschool who fight and overcome little daily battles. Though I didn’t find highschool anything like this, as others, I’m sure, would say, to some highschool may not have been a fairytale.

Buffy 4

It starts off with Sander daydreaming, it was obvious he was daydreaming from the start because he was already slaying a vampire and saving Buffy, totally backwards. But it goes back to class, in their science classroom, and Buffy's science teacher pulls her aside to talk to her about how she didn't complete her homework. Instead of scolding her he tries to inspire her, with fairly kind words. Not just the librarian seems to be understanding now, the science teacher seems okay too. Of course, something happens to him, since he was hope of kindness towards her. I thought it was odd that as he showed her kindness, he dissapeared, as willow said "he's one of the only teachers who doesn't think Buffy's a villan," and he goes missing? A substitute comes in who looks extremely fishy and odd, and then they open the freezer to find a headless science teacher. This teacher turns her head an entire 180 degrees, after she is appalled by the fact that Buffy calls the praying mantis ugly. She could very well be a human insect. She begins to eat a bug sandwhich, and causes a kid to dissapear. She warns Sander and of course he goes to the substitutes house anyways, she turns out to be a She-mantis and prey's on the boys. After the mantis dies, you can really see that Buffy truly misses the last science teacher, he had talked to her reasonably, and like a friend, and then he had to pass away.

Back to The Train Job

Thinking back to the train job, I see that most of the characters are fairly similar, on a mission, and then there's Kayle who is a sweet little mechanic, but Inara. She is much different than the others, she is a companion who seems to mean every word she says; she's one of those super nice types. She's the only one in the show that could give anyone hope about the human race. Zoe and Kayle are sweet but they both are very easily swayed and cannot talk back/stand up for themselves too well. Inara is the type of person that needs to be on that ship to bring people to their senses. For example when shes brushing Kayle's hair and speaking to her like a friend, and Mal comes in to try to get some attention he tells him off right away: exactly what he needs. She is the sense of the ship, as the others plot and follow Mal's evil plans, Inara talks to Sheppard and tells him he should pray that they all return safely. Zoe is close to being like Inara but she blindly follows Mal, if she could only speak up. She is even the one that goes out of her way, risks her life to make sure people are saved from the train, she saves Mal and Zoey from the train. She even, after that offers to use her shuttle to return the cargo that Mal needs to take back, she is fairly selfless. She's probabbly the happiest about the return of the crates of medicine.

Buffy Number 3

Buffy now wants to be a cheerleader? She wants to have a normal life, which makes sense. It actually helps the show make more sense, because it shows that she does want a normal life, and that she isn't okay with just slaying vampires all the time. What teenage girl would ever really be okay with that, wasting their teen years saving, unless she was completely selfless. This clears up some stuff, she is caring but wants a normal life too. She also finally accepts that her friends are going to be a team with her, and she accepts that they will find ways to help her with the slaying, whether they can slay or not. We can also see her love for her mom in this episode, deep down she really wants her mom to spend time with her, which doesn't seem like what she wanted at first. Buffy begins to branch out in this episode, someone practically self combusts and she takes this occurrence upon herself too. This episode says a lot about parental pressure and fitting in, but it turns out the mother is crazy. Which ends up working better with the message because it shows Buffy how great of a mother she really has. She is actually a witch, but it may still be that she became such a witch to please her mother. Buffy now really needs her friends, she is weak and cannot do things herself so she finally depends on them. This show teaches a lot of lessons. When Chander tells Willow she is one of the guys even though she likes him, it backfires on him and Buffy tells him that he’s one of the guys.

Buffy Round 2 !

I watched it yesterday and it was a decent show. I heard sci-fi and shuddered a little bit, but this show isn't terrible or anything. It's alright, cliche but alright! So during this episode they find that she isn't prepared. She finally accepts that she has to continue the slayer job and begins to work with the librarian to help. I think the fact that innocent teens are seriously endanger finally gets to her and she begins to work with the librarian she at first avoided completely. It's the harvest this night and I wonder if Angel means well or not. He wishes her luck under his breath after she leaves, so it seems like he wants to say it but maybe doesn't want her to know. Or he's saying it just for kicks because he believes that she is just screwed no matter what. And then Sander shows up, he really loves his friend but it could be for Buffy too. He seems to have a thing for Buffy, and showing up there supports that. Buffy also throws away her popularity to keep with her slaying job, and saving people. Sander and Buffy fend off the vampires and we find that Sander is very brave though he's never seen been that close to a vampire for very long. The librarian still has an eeire aura, and the british accent adds class too. The goal of the vampires must be to get a hold of Buffy's heart and drink her blood so she can no longer slay. Jesse is the teenager who gets caught and they run out of time, but find a way to fix it so things end up okay, but her mom gets in the way and she still succeeds with killing the vampire. We also find out in this episode that her mom doesn't know about her slaying job? They seem to all become fairly good friends in this episode too, I feel like they'll be the main trio.

Buffy, Episode 1

So today I watched my first ever episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and it was pretty weird. Anytime you hear vampire nowadays you think of hmm, Edward Cullen, Jacob, or that one show Vampire Diaries. This was weird because, well it focused on a girl, for starters. Its not a very vampire like show, its more of a typical highschool type of show. I thought it was kinda weird that the vampire slayer, is a fairly normal girl at the school, a nice person thats well known and she tries fairly hard to fit in versus other vampire shows where the vampire is a sort of outcast. I also think its odd that the vampire slayer ends up confessing to a librarian. Theres a lot of people but the librarian is the one that becomes a friend to her, well not a friend but a person she confides in. I also find it odd that the slayer gets accepted by people at the school so quickly, she walks in, drops a few things, and then is accepted by a fairly popuar girl. She’s a vampire slayer, and is a fairly normal person, and she also is trying to find a way out of the business of slaying. She wants to stop killing people and try to lead a normal life from the first episode, she tries to fit in with everyone and stop being a slayer even though that is her title. This show definetly breaks the stereotype of typical vampire shows, its much different in many ways. I’ll probably watch more of this show over others.

Me?

Well hey everyone, my name’s Prathayini but seriously I can count the people that call me that regularly on one hand. I have a million nicknames ranging from p-dizzle, to Panini, and even like, prithers. I’m here from Mason, its like 30 minutes north of Cincinnati. Anyways, my backround is Sri Lankan, it’s a tiny island off the coast of India, and its just now getting out of a massive civil war. Never actually been there in fear of dying from a bombing or something but I think it would be sweet to go someday. Honestly, I really don’t know how to introduce or describe myself, because I think I know myself a small fraction as well as my friends know me, and they never cease to remind me of that fact. So i’ll just list off some of the things they say about me. I love to bake, whether it’s a batch of cupcakes or a soufflĂ©, and when I am, I get really upset about small things I have to change for convenience. Like one time I was trying to make peanut butter cupcakes filled with chocolate, and they looked awesome in the picture and I was super excited and I opened the pantry, no cupcake wrappers. I was super bummed, and I made a loaf instead and it just didn’t taste the same. Kind of like how the Easy Mac shells don’t taste as good as the shapes. I’m also a massive procrastinator, and usually cant get my priorities straight very well. Sometimes fun things cloud my judgement, and I’m learning to overcome it and hopefully it gets better. They would probably also say I smile when I should have a stern face, or be in a serious mood about something but it’s hard, I’ll learn that someday too. Anyways, that’s about it, talk to ya later.
